Best Vegan Homemade Slow Cooker Barbeque (BBQ) Sauce

INGREDIENTS
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1 1/4 cups brown sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup unsulphured molasses
  • 1 15oz can of tomato sauce
  • 4 teaspoons hickory flavored liquid smoke
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (or ionion powder or 1/2 and 1/2).
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (regular or smoked)
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional; I leave it out because I'm a wimp).
  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • Throw everything into a crockpot/slow cooker. Cook on high til it's nice and hot, then turn to medium or low. I tip the lid or remove it so the sauce reduces a bit faster (although it doesn't seem to reduce much). Let it cook for several hours or until you feel like it's done. This is a very forgiving recipe. I toss re-hydrated soy curls in it and then bake them til they are almost jerky-like.

  • Tips:
  • -This freezes really well in mason jars.
  • -I use one glass 2 cup measure for the first 4 ingredients. Doing the molasses last helps it come out of the cup easier.
